Burnside, Western Australia
NESTLED in pristine bushland, Paprika House offers all the tranquility you could wish for yet close enough to the beach to hear the surf at night.
Here you will find a delightful, adults-only retreat suitable for up to three couples desiring stylish, boutique accommodation.
Designed for an artist and her husband as a place of wellbeing and renewal, the comforts of the house emphasise non toxic finishes, pure drinking water from the rain tank, seasonal vegetables and herbs from the garden all within a natural setting that sooths the soul.
The design is contemporary with three rectangles angled one above another perched above multi-headed grass trees, Snottygobbles, Peppermint and Marri trees.
Inside, intimacy is a main feature, connected to the natural world by the framing of the windows. From the open terrace, the sunsets are spectacular, the night sky awe-inspiring. It’s the perfect place for dinner by candlelight under the stars.
All three bedrooms have queen-sized beds with quality fittings and luxurious bath and beach towels.
Two spacious bedrooms adjoin the upstairs terrace with views of grass trees by day and stars by night. A generous bath, toilet and shower serves both rooms with views that encourage you to luxuriate while the tank water leaves your skin tingle with health.
The ground floor features a large fireplace for winter warmth and flow-through ventilation
for the summer.
There are books to satisfy diverse interests, a large flat screen internet-connected TV and quality sound system with a range of classical and popular music.
Relax into a Danish rosewood Vodder chair with a glass of Margaret River red and contemplate the artwork or soak up the sun on the daybed with a book of your choice … or simply daydream. This house will enrich you and offer you a place to reconnect with your imagination.
A short drive away there is a wonderful range of restaurants but you might prefer cooking with fine local produce in a well-equipped kitchen overlooking grass trees. It boasts a Smeg oven, silent Bosch dishwasher, quality cutlery and crockery, espresso machine and coffee percolator. The kitchen garden supplies seasonal vegetables and herbs. Simply choose which one of the outside areas you wish to enjoy the meal.
The laundry has all you need with separate toilet, washing machine, dryer, iron and board.
Downstairs is a discrete, spacious, light-filled studio with a queen bed, day bed, and well-equipped kitchenette. As graciously appointed as the rest of the house, there are Persian rugs, hanging space for clothes, a toilet and shower – ideal for extra privacy. A huge sliding glass door opens on to the bush that can be enjoyed with a cuppa in bed.
Whether you walk the nearby Cape to Cape trail, tour the excellent vineyards, practice yoga on the deck or just hang out, Paprika House grants you serenity and seclusion a mere10 minutes’ drive from the centre of Margaret River. It’s a pleasant half-hour walk to the beach or a short 4 WD drive.
Wash down in the outdoor shower or share a romantic hot bath in the enameled claw-tub under the peppermint trees hidden in a private bush nook. Just add Champagne!
Every season brings surprises and pleasures to Margaret River. In spring the wildflowers are stunning, in summer the spectacular beaches beckon. In winter, just snuggle in front of the fire, tucked up on the day bed with a book. Year-round you can visit caves, fish, walk the trails and visit and dine at the wineries
The Paprika House was planned and designed to take full advantage of the natural wonders of Margaret River while providing the best in comfortable, stylish living. As our visitors attest, that’s exactly what it achieves.

The Paprika House is an elegant surprise hidden in the tranquility of the Australian bushland in Margaret River.
It is bold, original and modern, yet at the same time it feels as if it might always have belonged just where it is.
Inside and out, it is both spacious and intimate and, above all, unique.
This is where the peacefulness of the bush meets the pleasures of beaches, restaurants and vineyards close by.

Charming, stylish house in a forest with everything you need for a great holiday. Fantastic hosts. We would absolutely stay again.

Paprika house is unique. While staying here gives all the comfort and luxury you would expect, it stands apart from other offerings in the area. Secluded and private it is surrounded by indigenous bush, yet surprisingly there is also an abundant herb and vegetable garden available for use. In addition to tasteful and practical interiors, the exterior provides a freshwater shower and a bath deep in the bush. Lying in balmy warm waters while listening to birds and gazing at delicate plants is an experience that is close to the sublime.
After staying at Paprika House I was enriched with memories of an extraordinary stay.

This place was perfect in every way! Had everything you could need plus extra special touches like fresh veggies from the gardens, visits from kangaroos, trails to explore the beautiful beaches and surrounds, fast and easy to get to town, awesome welcome basket with fresh eggs, fruits, jam and wine, the list goes on! Michele was fast and easy to communicate with and made our stay even better! Thank you so much for sharing your little slice of heaven!

Our trip to Margaret River was wonderful- especially coming from a cold London winter! But best of all was staying at Paprika House. The actual accommodation surpasses the photos or expectations. The house is both cosy and spacious and we loved taking our meals on one or other of the terraces. Drinks upstairs and watching the sunset was very special. We were captivated by the tall grass trees surrounding the house. A wonderful experience, can’t recommend highly enough.

This place has everything … charm, comfort, peaceful bush setting and really convenient for all the attractions of Margaret River: beaches, restaurants, vineyards and walks.
It’s got an incredible setting and outlook – and the house is a triumph of modern design that sits really well in the bush.
You’d go a long way to find anything half as stylish … or nearly as pleasant to stay with beautifully designed bedrooms and bathrooms, really intimate living spaces and a kitchen that has everything you need.
One word for Paprika House? Unique.
